BREEDLOVE LEGACY CONCERTO CE ADIRONDACK KOA – MADE IN OREGON, USA
Breedlove’s Concerto body is gaining fans for its sheer volume and sensitivity when picked. This body shape was designed by Breedlove to out-project a dreadnought, and it certainly is loud, with bass response you can feel in your chest. More surprising is its outstanding response to a lighter touch; fingerstyle players will find they have more dynamic range available to them, the Concerto allowing more volume with less effort.
Injecting the unique tonal properties of the Legacy model’s Adirondack Spruce top and Koa back and sides results in a guitar which adds beefy low end to Koa’s sweetness, all empowered and projected by the Adirondack. Breedlove’s Sound Optimization process ensures that not only is each piece of wood thinned to its optimum thickness, but that all woods work perfectly in conjunction with each other. The mahogany neck – carved from a single piece of Honduran mahogany – adds further warmth to the dominant tonewoods. It’s an intoxicating mix which makes absolute sense on this biggest of the Legacy models; simultaneously sweet and thunderous, the Legacy Concerto CE is a shining example of genius in acoustic guitar luthierie.
The Breedlove Legacy Concerto CE’s aesthetic starts with a flawless gloss finish and simple black binding. More eye-catching is the abalone strip around the top of the body, while simple dot inlays on the fretboard accentuate the beautiful Legacy Knot which features at the 12th fret and around the soundhole. The blackest of ebony features on the headstock cap, fretboard and bridge. The bridge itself is pinless, as with all Breedloves – a design choice made to reduce pressure on the soundboard and improve soundboard tonality through the lack of compromising bridgepin holes. Chrome Gotoh 381 closed-back tuners provide silky smooth tuning adjustments, while the neck feels just as good as you’d hope with the three days it takes to painstakingly complete the finishing process. The perfect finishing touch is the LR Baggs Anthem TRU-MIC system, which faithfully reproduces the sound of this beautiful guitar through an amp or PA.
A worthy flagship for Breedlove’s range, the Breedlove Legacy Concerto CE can hold its own among the best of American-made instruments; superlative!
