SCHECTER NICK JOHNSTON TRADITIONAL HSS
Nick Johnston’s unique guitar work has seen him release five solo albums and collaborate with a range of artists from Paul Gilbert to Bryan Beller. His Schecter signature guitar, the Nick Johnston Traditional H/S/S, has been designed to furnish his needs as artist, making it highly versatile and well thought-out right off the bat. Johnston is obsessed with the interplay between his guitar’s control interface and pickup response, an attention-to-detail which becomes evident as soon as you plug this guitar in.
It’s no secret that the HSS pickup layout is among the most versatile available. The Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HSS in Atomic Coral takes this to another level, adding a push-pull tone control and RWRP middle pickup for those dreamy 2 and 4 positions on the 5 way switch. The bridge humbucker – a Schecter Diamond ’78 – produces classic vintage humbucker tones, but can also handle more aggressive, higher-gain styles.
In terms of construction, the Nick Johnston Traditional HSS has an alder body with bolt-on Roasted Maple neck. The Roasted Maple adds noticeably increased stability and tonal transfer, coming topped with an 14” radius Ebony fretboard for effortless string bends and progress up and down the board. The Diamond Vintage Tremolo system allows the whole range of classic whammy bar techniques, while Schecter locking tuners keep the strings locked down at the other end.
